About Natalie – Designer Jeweller

Having a great love for anything creative from a young age, I always knew that I wanted to make beautiful things that would transcend time and become someone’s treasure.

Initially trained in South Africa gaining a Jewellery Manufacturing and Design Diploma from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town. Following graduation, I was fortunate enough to become an apprentice at an established designer jeweller and this is where I discovered the exciting world of Bespoke. While simultaneously teaching jewellery design at a private jewellery school, it is in doing so that I learnt to fully appreciate the understanding of design concepts and the balance of form.

With a desire to broaden my skills, I came to England and started work in London repairing antiques and remodelling old pieces into something more modern and fashionable, whilst at all times maintaining its integrity. I furthered my education at the Sir John Cass Faculty at The Metropolitan University in London gaining my City and Guilds qualifications. I advanced my training in Diamond Mounting, Stone Setting and Jewellery Design. This proved to be invaluable as I learnt “old school” techniques not to mention many “tricks of the trade” from craftsmen that have honed their skills through their years, some of whom used to work for Aspreys and Cartier.

Working for 11 years as the Resident Diamond Mounter for a well-established retail jeweller in Hatton Garden, the Jewellery centre of London, saw me accumulating my knowledge in creating “One-off” commission pieces alongside some of the most skilled tradesmen in the business. Here I learnt the art of ‘communicating’ with clients, thus enabling me to understand and bring to life their ideas.

Keeping up to date with technology and seeing the potential that CAD CAM (Computer aided Design and Manufacture) could offer the independent jeweller, I decided to train and incorporate this into my skill-set. Finding this method exciting and invaluable in creating pieces that handmade technique are limited doing.

Establishing Navette Jewellery Studio has allowed for direct contact with the jeweller and the client, allowing for the appreciation of how jewellery is made. Forever enjoying the complete process of interpreting the clients wishes into designs and then creating each piece, has seen me specialise on bespoke and remodelling pieces these past few years. Concentrating on jewellery design saw me acquire 3 national jewellery awards, along with Navette Jewellery Studio being recently being awarded the Kent Wedding Jeweller of the year Award for 2023/2022 and 2022/2021.

Much focus has been on establishing a reputable business and we now have a lovely dedicate and passionate team behind Navette and look forward to continue doing what we love!
